Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that was designed for PTSD. CPT is an empirically based and researched protocol to help people work through their stuck points. CPT helps the patient set goals.
Some goals that help track PTSD symptoms weekly. We will focus on an impact event to examine.
Write an impact statement. There are different types of “stuck points”
- Shoulda-coulda-wouldas
- If only.
- Self-blame
- Blaming people or factors.
People make predictions about their future and generalizations. We will use ABC worksheets. With CPT like CBT, we will reexamine the event which was traumatizing. Examine your thinking patterns. We will develop alternative thoughts to balance your thinking.
We will change your thoughts about the present and your future. Your sense of safety, trust, power and control, and esteem.
